A True Love/Hate Relationship: Winter in Minnesota!
Though Minnesota is vibrant fabric made of many unique threads, there is one thing that brings us all together; how we collectively seem to despise yet enjoy the bounty of our Winters. Our dual feelings toward Winter may very well be one of man’s longest-known love/ hate relationships! In honor of this idea that brings us together, Mad Munchkin Productions and the Eclectic Edge Ensemble have teamed up with local composers Brian Erickson, Warren Park and Richard Sloss to create Snow Bound! : A Journey from Autumn to Spring. This infusion of puppetry, jazz dance and original music is a family-friendly musing of the human experience of winter, explored through the natural world’s seasonal changes. From hibernating animals to night stars, puppets and dancers work together to travel through Winter’s playful wonder, depressing darkness, and everything in between.

About the producers
Mad Munchkin Productions was co-founded in 2005 by Laura Wilhelm and Alan Pagel, with a mission to collaboratively create theatrical works of imagination and imagery that touch the humanity, humility, and humor in all, leaving their minds and souls challenged and invigorated. Wilhelm has an MFA in Directing from the University of Memphis, TN and has been creating and directing works of puppetry and imagination for 11 years, 6 of which have been in the Twin Cities. She works for small and large theaters in the area, varying from heading a puppetry project for the Guthrie to directing a community cast of 60 in a puppet filled Wizard of OZ. Pagel has been working in the Twin Cities as a theater technician and Carpenter for eight years, the past two of which have been spent as the Technical Director for Stepping Stone Theater where he also has the pleasure of training youth in technical theater.
A contemporary jazz dance company with a diverse repertoire, the Eclectic Edge Ensemble collaborates with local musicians, choreographers, and other artists to create musically and theatrically inspired work. The company aims to present a fresh perspective on jazz dance in the Twin Cities, creating accessible performance experiences that connect to audiences through the pure joy of movement. As Linda Shapiro touts, “…Karis Sloss is determined to bring jazz dance back, front and center (Citypages, 7/08).” Ms. Sloss has studied dance for over twenty years earning a BA from the U of M Dept of Theater and Dance, and has been working with Eclectic Edge Ensemble and its twenty dancers since 2003. She also teaches dance to youth, is a freelance choreographer, and has served as an assistant director for the SteppingStone Theater.
