over the river and through the woods…

My goodness! It’s February! January was so cold that my fingers couldn’t type to add a blog. Now, it’s still freezing but I learned to type with mittens on so please excuse any typos.
We open Goldilocks and Little Red Riding Hood in two days. I have had so much fun playing with these stories. Charming and scary like all good fairy tales. We put this on the season to create a show that the whole family could enjoy together. I always think that most of our shows are appropriate for young and old but I may not be a judge of that.
I have been dealing with a bit of a choreography-block as of late. I still manage to come up with steps but not with the same flow that I am used to. Just when I was getting concerned, it dawned on me; in the last 5 months I had choreographed: 4 huge fashion shows in LA, San Fran, Chicago, and here, a full length Swan Lake, a holiday show of Cinderfella and now this new one. That must be about a million dance steps. Suddenly I wasn’t sure that I had a block of any kind. Maybe just the cold weather and a bit of old age setting in. That I can handle! So…
I am really excited about the way this show is turning out. I feel like a kid watching it, even at the point that it’s at right now (which is NOT finished). One of my dearest friends and a dancer here at the Dolls recently had a difficult health issue and couldn’t be in the show. After 8 days in the hospital, he managed to come to the studio the other day. My heart leapt out of my chest with joy just to see his face and out of that ridiculous hospital gown. Much too plain and boring for him, I thought. After he left rehearsal he wrote me a text saying “I LOVED being there. I felt like a kid. How wonderful art is”. Mission accomplished!!!!!! I hope you come and see the show…bring your youngins! XO, Myron
I will keep you updated on how tech week is going…if the frostbite doesn’t get me first. Spring is right around the corner. My favorite time of year.
