Fashion Ball 2012: Fashion Fairytales
Ballet of the Dolls is a quirky gem in the Twin Cities’ lively arts scene. And it is your chance to experience this firsthand at the highlight event of the spring season: Fashion Ball: Fashion Fairytales. Featuring couture collections styled and produced by Doll and stylist extraordinaire Grant Whittaker and Dolls Artistic Director Myron Johnson, Fashion Ball is a luxe evening where dance, theatre and fashion collide.
As the night kicks off on the VIP night (April 14), guests partake in signature cocktails, fabulous food from Chowgirls Killer Catering and a unique silent auction in the charming backstage studio of the historic Ritz Theater. Then they are then invited to enjoy the show. Fashion and dance explode onto the stage creating a wild, otherworldly effect. After the performance, the audience is invited back stage to mingle with designers, models and artists. And, of course, guests enjoy more cocktails and food while mingling with the performers and models. (April 13 will feature the performance/runway show, plus a private post-show dance party.)
Those participating represent the top creative minds and style-setters in the Twin Cities: Grethen House, Joynoelle and Denny Kemp Salon will bring innovative runway styles, mixed with unique vintage pieces from Fashion Avenue, Theatrical Costume Co., and Ragstock. Prairie Organic Vodka will supply couture cocktails, innovative video segments from Runner Runner will spike the already avant-garde punch, Vision brings the city’s most alluring models, and of course, the dancers of Ballet of the Dolls will bring their trademark brand of sass and glamour.
Fashion Ball is the only fundraising event that the company does in the season. Proceeds from this event will go to furthering all of the programs of Ballet of the Dolls, including: education and outreach programs, company training, archive and documentation, and most importantly, to help insure that there is a bright future to foster new work by the company for the next 25 years.

Leave it to stylist, dancer, dreamer Grant Whittaker to create an event that brings together burlesque dancers, pageant queens and upper crust clients from Edina boutique Grethen House. The Fashion Ball at the Ritz Theater in Minneapolis combined over-the-top dance numbers by Ballet of the Dolls with runway segments featuring some knock-out looks from Grethen House and J. Novachis. It was glittery, raw and irreverent, as only male dancers in wedding dresses and head-to-toe leopard print can be. Fun. Exactly what fashion should be.”
