The Cactus Blossoms Self-titled debut CD Release!

Brothers JACK TORREY & PAGE BURKUM sing songs of love, and of love gone wrong. Of life and death, and the great beyond.
THE CACTUS BLOSSOMS’ new debut CD features ten country & western songs including eight of their own originals. The recording took place in a single day at LittleBig Studio, in a house beside the rolling Cannon River in Cannon Falls, MN and was masterfully recorded and mixed by Brent Sigmeth (Haley Bonar, Ramblin’ Jack Elliot, The Bad Plus).

Memorable songs include the lover’s farewell “Adios Maria,” which pulls on the heartstrings like a Townes Van Zandt or Graham Parsons song might, leaving nearly as many teardrops on the floor. “A Sad Day to Be You” showcases flawless harmonies, sung as only brothers can. “Cold Foot Boogie” skips and swings and makes you wanna dance. “Lonesome and Blue” is rich with beautiful melody and symmetry between the sweet, plaintive fiddle and eerie pedal steel.

The new Cactus Blossoms recording is a refreshing return to the basics, a simplicity that is beautiful to hear.

About The Cactus Blossoms

Based in Minneapolis, the band includes MIKE “RAZZ” RUSSELL on fiddle (Jayhawks, Joe Henry), LIZ DRAPER (DitchLilies, Black Blondie) on upright bass, and RANDY BROUGHTEN (Gear Daddies, Trailer Trash) on pedal steel guitar and dobro. They recently opened for renowned singer-songwriter Robbie Fulks at the Turf Club and last fall opened for Nashville country star Marty Stuart at the Dakota Jazz Club and after placing first in a duet competition at the 2010 Minnesota State Fair, Jack and Page were invited to perform later that night at the grandstand performance of Garrison Keillor’s A Prairie Home Companion. Other radio appearances include a feature in MPR’s Art Hounds program and multiple in-studio performances on KFAI.
